The Journal to Knitehood #4: Homework Assignment

Alright Knites! It's time to establish a daily routine to keep that mind fresh and to provide an opportunity for accountability, more on that later!

Let’s try to do the following on a daily basis! The assignment will update after every Journey stream so that it may include the current study!

In our last Stream we allowed some input from the community and this is what we came up with.

For the Homework assignment we are going to be following the path of the Study plan. So far in the Study plan we covered board setup, intro to the pieces and how they move and the special rules of chess.

  1. We will begin every assignment with the review of the rules! Please click on the rules below to begin.

       Review the rules

  1. Now that we know how to set up the board let’s familiarize ourselves with an activity that helps us with piece movement. (Please click on the title below)

SOLO Chess (Solitaire Chess)

  • Capture a piece with every move until just one remains
  • No piece may capture more than 2 times per puzzle
  • If there is a King on the board, it must be the final piece
  • Try for a perfect run in Challenge Mode!

I actually love playing solo chess! It allows me to improve my thinking when it comes to how to capture a piece as well as develop the skill to plan the sequence of moves.

  1. Now that you know how to set up the board and how the pieces move and attack, let’s take a look at some “Real World” situations and see if we can figure out how to solve them by doing the Daily Puzzle (Click here for the Daily Puzzle). You should be familiar with these by now since we tackle these on at the beginning of every Journey stream.

  1. You should be warmed up by now! Why not try to play a game or two? (Click Below to start a live game)

 Play two live games

I know it will be tempting to play an exciting 1 minute game but if you are a novice like me, may I please suggest playing a longer time control like 15 minutes. This allows you some time to think which leads to better decisions.

That’s it, there’s nothing to it! It’s nice and simple for now as we get familiar with everything but believe me it’s going to be a lot tougher as we get better.

*Note

Please feel free to do any of the tasks above as many times as you can if you are able to.

  1. The very Last thing that you must do is REPORT! That’s right, this is one of the things we have to do in order to ensure that we hold each other accountable to progress!

After you have completed your homework you have to check into the discord with your results. Click on the link below to join the discord server

#home-work-check-in

Once you are in the Channel type your daily achievements in the following format

*There might be a surprise for those who complete the week’s assignments

  • Chess.com name = Your name on Chess.com so that we can check out games for analysis etc…
  • Reviewed the Rules = Did you review the rules?
  • Solo Chess = the Level is how far you got without any errors.
  • Daily Puzzle = Did you complete the daily puzzle
  • Live games = How many games you have played.

I look forward to seeing how we continue to grow as we submerge into that chess grind! I’ll see you guys next time! Happy Thanks Giving, God Bless and Peace!
