Hi everyone! Welcome to my eighth blog! In this blog, you will learn 6 basic checkmate patterns! Now let's get started.
Checkmates are important and exciting to watch. In this blog, I will teach 6 6 most basic checkmate patterns with example!
#1: Back Rank Checkmates
Many people always forget their back rank and get checkmated with the no escape squares for the king. The reason back rank checkmates is important is because you will always be able to monitor your back rank and punish your opponent for leaving the king alone with no escape squares. By fully understand back rank checkmates, it can easily get you brilliant moves. Below is an example.
#2: h7 and h2 square
The reason this is so critical is because many beginner leveled players didn't see this threat. The point is you always need to be on the lookout of this threat. As you get stronger, you will blow open your opponent's king using other flashy sacrifices such as the Greek Gift Sacrifice. I might make an blog on it in the future.
G7 and g2 are similar to the h2 and h7 squares. Your queen and bishop can power up and checkmate the opponent king. Likewise, this checkmate happens commonly in beginner's level so be sure to keep this type of checkmate in mind!
This is a checkmate where your enemy king and its other pieces is positioned in a way where you can checkmate your opponent with your queen. The queen eliminates every getaway squares of your enemy king. Be sure to keep this mate in my when you have extra material in the endgames!
#5: Knight and bishop mate
This type of mate happens when your king castles on the queenside. Your bishop takes away all the enemy squares and your knight delivers the final blow. It looks like this.
#6: The smothered mate
The smothered mate is probably one of the best checkmates of all time. You use a queen sacrifice to force the king in the corner of the board with no escape squares. Then your knight hops in and end the game.
