Chess Variants (EXPLAINED)

Recently, Chess.com added Chess Variants. There are people that don't know how to play that couple of variants, but I will try to explain you as best as I can.

1. 4 Player Chess

I've played this before and it's very cool! There is 1 (modified) board on which 4 players play normal chess. There isn't black vs white. It's yellow vs green vs red vs blue so its total chaos!!! You can play it solo or duo.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

2. Doubles (Bughouse)

I called it Klotz before but apparently, it is called Doubles or Bughouse. If you know what Klotz is, you will sure know what Doubles is. IT'S THE SAME! If you don't know what klotz is, I will explain you. You can play it only duo. If your teammate captures a piece, you can place it on your board. If your enemy captures a piece, then your teammate's enemy will be able to place it on his board.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

3. Fog of War

It's a pretty cool mode. you don't see all the board, only the squares your pieces can move. You don't see what your opponent moves, so it's a bit difficult. If you are unlucky, you can move a piece and immideately it will disapear, because your enemy captured it. But, if you are lucky, your opponent can move a valuable piece right on the square where your pawn can grab something. Here you don't have to checkmate your opponent, but to capture his king.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

4. Automate

This is my favourite! All you have to do is to place pieces everywhere you want on the board in a strategic way from 1st-3rd rank (white) or from 8th-6th rank (black). After you've done this, just wait and watch the computers crushing each other.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

5.Chaturanga
It's an ancient mode of chess, but queens and bishops move different. I don't have too much to explain here, so try to play it yourself!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

6.Capture Anything

There is nothing special at this mode. With what is different by normal chess is that you can capture your pieces too. I personally don't like it, because if I missclick on my piece, I lose it. So that's why I don't like this mode.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

7.Sideways Pawns It's like normal chess, the only difference is that the pawns can move sideways one square, but they cannot capture sideways.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

8. King of the hill In this mode, you have to bring your king in the center of the board before your opponent does. In my opinion, this is a bit complicated, because your enemy won't let you do this easy.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

9. Three Check This mode is pretty cool because, you have to check your opponent 3 times to win. Be careful! Your opponent will try to do the same so you must defend your king very well.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

10.Torpedo This mode is very useful if you have free pawns, because they will be able to move 2 squares more than 1 move, so it will be much more easier to promote them in the endgame.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

11.Horde This is a pretty funny chess mode! White has a lot of pawns and must checkmate black, but black starts with the classical arrangement of pieces and must take all white's pawns. After I told you this, I will show you the starting position of Horde:Cool right?
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
11.Blindfold In this mode you will have to play chess without seeing any of pieces! You will see only the notation of the moves so you must imagine the position. But don't worry! Your opponent doesn't see either the pieces, so its 50%-50% chances to win.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

12.No castling Here, you cannot castle, so you must find another way to protect your king by enemy's atacks.

I hope I helped you to better understand how you can play these chess modes!!!
