Why do people bring out the Knight in the beginning of the game???

          Dear Chess.com Members,

               I've always wondered, "Why do people bring out the Knight in the beginning of the game?" My 2nd couisin, Maddie is right here with me and she said, "I'm guessing to start the game if you're the Knight.Duh!" Well, maybe she's right, but I'm still waiting for a better answer to come to me.(Sorry, Maddie! L.O.L.)

               I'm hoping that the answer will come to me A.S.A.P. because the suspense is absolutely KILLING me!!!!! Well, if any of you know the answer to my question, please leave it in my comments.
