An astonishing game Between Sjors and me.
Sjors like me is one of the few quick players, he likes 10  min games whereas I like 5 min games.
While the others like long games, and that's what we usually play at an evening at the chess club. I think also Sjors is a slightly better player theoretically but in a certain sense we match, though his ratings are higher, maybe it's our game style.

As usual, we got a nice game, I played a defensive role for a long time, but in the end a mating surprise attack. It was though amazing how he broke through a Sicilian dragon's defense.  Never seen a white attack like that, Sjors is good he doesn't know opening names but plays really well, I asked him afterward if he played something anti-dragon, and he didn't know dragon.

He could have taken a rook (giving him a few points more as for board rating), though he thought there was more to gain in combination with the queen, that decision saved my rook.
In pawns he was on the upper hand, he told me eventually he wanted to trade off peace and then win by a pawn storm since I didn't get any pawns left on the right side. A good plan, though I had another idea maybe he wouldn't notice my knight and use it to create a wall with the help of his own pawn in front of his king; because I could draw his attention towards his pawn on the edge of the board if I moved my rook to that side as well, making it look I would go after his pawn promotion while in fact playing for checkmate, which got him by surprise.

Afterward, we also played a continuation of what if .. would happen if he had moved the pawn before his king, then black still slightly ahead by major pieces (non-pawns), was able to block promotions, and eventually with help of the knight and king be able to promote a queen, though during this trial Sjors corrected my moves as he saw my faults when I got into PAT which is good, he's a good player. Though like the previous OTB game, I played it's important to judge a chessboard as a new game, don't stick too long to old strategical plans, the game might not be like that anymore. And also chess is a human game, it's about psychology as well, faking an attack on pawn promotion, keeping all the attention there  wink.png

Oh well, I'm sure the next game he likely beats me, that's what's keeping our games interesting. And for the record we were the first to finish, it took us both 20 minutes to play the game which for both of us is a long time wink.png  (we got a 1:15 hour + 10  sec or so ).
