Return to Chess 8 | Analyzing a prior tournament game!
Hey, everyone. For today's training, I decided to go back and review a game that I played over a year ago in my last tournament, in order to not repeat the same mistake twice. In my opinion, a way to improve at everything in life is to take your experiences and learn from them the best that you can. Today, I'm looking at a game in which I made a large, but subtle blunder, and looking to take lessons from it.
Lesson 1: When you don't know an opening, stick to chess principles! Personally, I violated this one when I attempted to get fancy by playing Bd7 early on, instead of just playing e3 and developing a pawn.
Lesson 2: When up a piece, don't hurry. I went up a knight in the middlegame, and tried to snag extra pawns, leading to an alignment issue on the c-file, in which White played Kd2 and snagged my knight back.
Lesson 3: King Protection is key.
