Distracted by baseball

You see what happened was that I went to a baseball game back in march and became so interested in college baseball that I decided to take a break from chess.  I ended up going to 7 regular season games and 8 playoff games. In addition to this I also watched a lot of games on TV.

        Well, it has been a while since I have been into chess. It is probably a good time to reassess where I am at. I made some pretty ambitious goals at the beginning of the year....including reading Fundamental chess Endings by Karsten Muller and Frank Lamprecht from cover to cover. That goal may not be realistic now. When I was working hard at it, I did manage to complete the chapters on basic mates, pawn endings and knight endings. However, I'm not confident I can maintain that kind of progress.

       So, what I decided to do was to turn my attention to a smaller goal I made a while back.....that was to read each issue of chess life from cover to cover. It's been a while since I have worked on this goal, so actually the goal isn't such a small one anymore. I am currently 4 issues behind.

I also recently returned to my hiking activities. Here is a photo from a little after work hike I did the other day.
