Finding the path back to chess.

It has been a while since I have competed regularly.....especially OTB. Part of the reason I haven't been more active is that to compete in the typical weekend swiss tournament means I can't do other things on the weekend. To be honest quite frequently there are other things I would rather be doing on the weekend. I am a big sports fan. I often go to football games in the fall and baseball games n the winter and spring; plus I am a trail runner with aspirations to do an ultra marathon one day. Recently there was a chess tournament I would have liked to play in but I had 7.5 mile night trail race I wanted to do more. I think this sort of thing may be a problem for me going forward. I love chess but I can see that balancing a tournament life with other things that are important to me may be a big challenge. Football in the fall, baseball in the winter and spring, and trail running all year makes it hard to fit chess in somewhere. There may be a window though. I could train hard on chess in the summer and then try to maintain some training through football season with the idea of going to Las Vegas to play in the North American Open. For now what I think I will do is play correspondence chess with the ICCF, I decided to start this blog to track my progress and hopefully inspire others in some way if I manage to find success.
