Here's a position from a recent game. Black to move and make progress.

I decided on pushing the pawn to c5. My goal was to open c6 for my Knight with a further hope to relocate the Knight to d5. I was hoping for a Knight trade to fix my pawn structure.

Here's the position a few moves later, mission accomplished.

White obliged and has nothing going for them as they continue to lose space.

The coming Knight trade will put my pawn on d5. Eventually, I'll castle queenside and break through on the g and f-files.

The full game is below.

Welcome to my blog.

I'm an adult improver, and I write about chess technique, tricks, and having strategic intent. My primary audience is the non-expert or even a newcomer to chess who is looking for practical advice, exercises, and clues to improve at the game.

I've spent most of my life reading and being a fan of the game. I've seen it change so much since my childhood, and I love working with younger kids who are just getting started.
