An Extremely Fun Chess Like Game
The Jungle Game!
Anyone ever play it? Also called Jungle Chess or Chinese Chess according to the write up in the game. Used to play this all the time when younger. It's simple and very similar to chess
Each side gets 8 pieces (animals) as follows:
#8 Elephant
#7 Lion
#6 Tiger
#5 Panther
#4 Fox
#3 Dog
#2 Cat
#1 Rat

The board pre-game:

And the board set up:

The objective: Get any one of your pieces into your opponents den (the 1 square either side that looks different)
Pieces: Each piece can capture a piece of equal or lower value, with the exception that #1 (the rat) can capture #8 (the elephant).
Game Play: Players take turns making one move. Each piece can move left, right, up or down, but not diagonal. Pieces can capture (when able to - see above) an opponent's piece when they move onto their square. Captured piece is then removed for the remainder of game.
Extra rules:
- Players cannot move into their own den.
- The rat is the only piece that can enter the water.
- The lion and tiger can both jump over the water as one turn, as long as the rat isn't blocking any of the squares jumped.
- The 3 blue checkered squares either side are nets. When any piece steps into a net, it loses it's value while in there, and can be captured by any piece.
Let me know if you've ever played in the comments! Maybe we could figure out a way to play online
