So here is one of the main opening traps:

Getting a knight to e5 is great! To block this trap, play f6, which would normally be a terrible move, but is quite normal and fine in atomic.

Here is a continuation of that same trap after f6:

Qxd7# is one threat, and the other is Qf7+, Kd7, Qxe7#

to block this, play g6 as well as f6.

ALWAYS REMEMBER: Your pieces are safe around the enemy king.

Nothing hangs because of explosions. Capturing pawns next to enemy minor pieces with your minor pieces will win a pawn.

Capturing pawns next to other pieces (rook, queen) is good too.
