Blogger's Block: The Bane of Every Blogger's Existence

Hello everyone! Welcome back!

Have you ever sat down to write a blog post and decided five minutes later to do something else because you don't know what to write?

You don't have to answer that question. I know.

However, some of us try to be fairly consistent in our work, and others of us want to have as many posts as possible to get lots of views, and some of us just want to write something, and just sitting there isn't going to cut it!

Well, believe it or not, you're not alone. Even top bloggers get blogger's block, and it sucks!

We've all been there, haven't we...

But, believe it or not, there are actually a few great ways to get rid of blogger's block and really think of something great to write.

I'm a fairly new blogger, but I've had to wrestle with this annoyance too many times, and these are, as far as I know, the best ways to get rid of it.

Your first move should be to look at some top blogs. These blogs are called "top" for a reason, and they almost always have satisfying and interesting topics.

Find a top blogger, and look at something they blog about. It can be chess memes, their own games, or almost anything else, but top bloggers know how to get things done.

If that doesn't work, then your next step should be looking at your own blogs. Take me as an example: say I had blogger's block. I could look at my blog and see my post about the English, my favorite opening as White.

Perhaps then I could write about the Caro-Kann, my favorite opening as Black. See? I already have an idea!

This method is limited by the unfortunate fact that you can’t just copy old work. However, it’s still very strong and useful for getting started.

Your own work is a great resource because you can look at what you've already done and think about what you want to do.

What's left?

If you've been really paying attention, you might have noticed that there's one other resource related to blogging that I haven't covered: the All Blogs page.

Unfortunately, you're not going to find quite the quality here as on the Top Blogger page, but there's far more content there, and ideas and creativity practically overflow. It's probably the best place if you want practical ideas that don't take too much time to execute. It's also nice if you don't like having to compare yourself to the Top Bloggers like me wink.

So that's all great.

But I'm sure there's someone out there who's asking themselves

Isn't there any way that I can think of a good blog without scrolling through other blogs for hours?

NO! GO SCROLL!

Just kidding. There definitely is! One great thing to do is go to your profile, scroll through your game history with your eyes closed, and click on a random game!

Go through that game, use a game review if you have one, and try to analyze it a bit. See what went wrong (or right, you lucky dog), and turn that into a post. Pretend you're a streamer if you like!

You could also go play Bullet on tilt for a few hours if you still can't think of anything wink.

The last bit of advice is to just start writing! There's really no cure for blogger's block like just sitting down and typing something. That something doesn't have to be related to blogging, chess, or anything you would normally write about. It can be gibberish! But just having your fingers moving will help.

Don't be like Calvin!

That's my best advice for you. Just get out there and start writing, playing, and reading.

Blogger's block is a little bit like a little kid. You just have to give it something to play with, and it'll leave you alone happy.

That’s all for today. Thanks for reading!

May your tactics stay sharp.

Hi guys! For those of you who don’t know me, my name is Jacob, and I’ve been an avid chess player for 9 years.

I’m rated around 1000 elo on chess.com, with an inaccurate FIDE rating because I never play OTB.

I love to blog about my own games and chess history. I love daily games and accept any challenge 🙂. I'm currently participating in BlogChamps, and my goal is to become a Top Blogger, however long that may take!

The crowning glory of my career was my post about the Caro Crab, which can be found on my blogs page. This post won 4th place in BlogChamps' first ever April Fools contest.

I'm an active participant in every club I join, but I'm very selective about my clubs because I want to only be in clubs that will challenge me to improve my play.

I’m currently very busy, so it may take me a day or two to respond to DMs.

If you enjoy my content, please drop a comment, and read my other posts as well!

May your tactics stay sharp.
