Chess Opening Repertoire

May 15, 2013, 7:33 AM 2

I've played chess off and on my entire life but I wanted to start taking chess a little more seriously. I'm trying to decide how to create my first opening repertoire. I've read about different ways of creating it basing it on your strengths. I want to create mine point blank as the best moves possible. In doing this I want to use the most popular moves by the masters as I believe this would be the way to do this. However, I've come into a problem with distinguishing which opening database to go by. I've seen chess.com's, chessdatabase, shredder chess. There's also the ECO encyclopedia which don't list the % of time each move was used. Anyone have any advice about this?
