The Pin

Hi! It's jh334 and today we will talk about the pin. The pin is a tactic where one of your pieces "pins"one piece to another. Here is an example:

Notice how if the knight moves, white will lose the queen. This a relative pin. The knight can move, but it's a bad move.

An absolute pin is like the relative pin, but you can't move the pinned piece! This happens when the piece is pinned to the king.

White can't move its knight on c3 because if it moves white will be in check so they cant move it.
