Review of The Championship Series Chess Set
I have just recently purchased the Championship Series Chess set (3.75 King) from the House of Staunton. It was included in a "design your own tournament kit" and I chose the ebonized boxwood set that included a bag and a vinyl tournament board. The tournament kits start at $49.95, but go up from there depending on upgrades.
Let me start by saying that this set exceeded my expectations. This is my first wooden chess set. I didn't want to spend a lot of money, but wanted a set other than plastic. For the price (under $100), the quality is superb. The pieces are nicely weighted and durable. My kids love playing with this set.
Even the packaging surprised me. The set came in a box that included two trays (one for white and one for black). Each piece rested in its individual foam cavity. I wouldn't have thought the manufacturer would spend the money on packaging for a lower end set.
Anyway, so far I feel the set has been a good buy. I often get asked why I chose to shop at House of Staunton instead of other discount chess sites. Well, the answer is because of the quality, fast delivery, and customer service that I receive from them.
If you're looking for a great set for a reasonable cost, I am happy to recommend this set.
Thanks for reading this review.
