Champion Once Again!
The chess team tournament at the Department of Education, Philippines had been tight all through out with the scores too close for comfort for each team. Anything could happen, as the score chart keep changing every now and then.
At the penultimate round, Orange Team (where I belong) posted a hard earned 2.5 : 1.5 victory against the consistent Blue Team to earn the right to face the Red Team in the finals which shutout White Team 4 : 0.
Team Orange board 2 player was the first to score a win. I was quite happy, however, luck was not on our side as, one by one, my teammates from boards 3 and 4 succumbed to pressure against their veteran opponents. Red team just needed 1/2 point to earn the title - but they will take it against me. If the score would be 2 : 2 then Orange team will be the victor since boards 1 and 2 would get the higher tie break based on the rules relayed to us.
I was not in the panic mode during the game as I beat my opponent in the elimination and in the quarterfinal rounds before so I knew from the start that I would beat him again this time. But it was easier said than done. Fear factor came in as all players and coaches moved to witness our game. I noticed that my opponent just wanted to play for draw so I pushed and pushed further to take the victory and was declared 2013 DepEd Secretary's Cup Chess Champion! Enjoy the games folks.
