Biggest news in the chess world! ๐Ÿ“ข The FIDE World Cup 2025 is going to be hosted in India this year. That's right — from October 30 to November 27, the world's best chess players will gather in our country to fight for glory and a ticket to the 2026 FIDE Candidates Tournament. ๐ŸŽฏ

๐Ÿ” Format – It’s Knockout Time!

A total of 206 players will compete in a knockout-style tournament – high stakes and high pressure. ๐Ÿ‘Š Each match lasts 3 days:

  • 2 classical games (slow, strategic battleโ™Ÿ๏ธ)

  • Day 3 tie-breaks (only if scores are tied!)

The top 50 seeds get a bye in the first round, while seeds 51 to 206 will face off in classic top-half-vs-bottom-half pairings.

๐ŸŽฏ What’s at Stake?

Only the top 3 finishers from this World Cup will secure their place in the 2026 Candidates Tournament, the one that decides the challenger for the next World Chess Championship. ๐Ÿ˜ฑ

๐ŸŒ Who Can Qualify?

Multiple paths exist to reach the World Cup, such as:

  • Current World Champions ๐Ÿ† (Open and Women’s)

  • Top finishers from the 2023 World Cup

  • U20 Junior World Champion

  • Regional quotas from Africa, Americas, Asia, Europe

  • 13 highest-rated players (as per June 2025 ratings)

  • Top 100 nations from Chess Olympiad 2024

  • Plus 6 special nominations (4 from FIDE President, 2 from host)

India will surely have a strong contingent! ๐Ÿ’ช

๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ณ India: The Rising Chess Superpower

Having this prestigious event in India is a huge honor. Our country has turned into a chess powerhouse, thanks to legends like Vishy Anand and rising stars like:

  • ๐Ÿง  Gukesh D – the youngest ever FIDE World Champion

  • ๐Ÿ”ฅ Praggnanandhaa R – 2023 World Cup runner-up

  • ๐Ÿ’ฃ Arjun Erigaisi – World No. 5

Let’s not forget 2024’s golden year:
๐Ÿฅ‡ India won both Open and Women’s team golds at the Olympiad
๐Ÿฅ‡ Gukesh, Erigaisi, Deshmukh, Agrawal won individual golds
๐Ÿฅ‡ Koneru Humpy bagged Women’s Rapid gold

All these achievements set the perfect stage for hosting the World Cup!
