Egg-Shaped Modernist Chess Pieces

My wife and I bought this stylish chess set decades ago in Palma de Mallorca. We were attracted to it by the shape of the pieces and their red – white colour. We love to watch and touch them after all those years, but they aren't quite suitable for playing over-the-board games. Especially the Knights and the Bishops are hard to identify on the board. Nevertheless, everybody can see in these photographs that they are loved and have been used!

The design is minimalistic, based on an ellipsoid or ovoid.

Only the Kings and the Queens have additions to the basic shape: their stylized crowns! The height of the King and the Queen is 55 mm and 53 mm respectively, the diameter of their circular base is 27 mm.

The Rooks have a flat top, the tip of the ellipsoid is cut off; their height is 38 mm.

The shape of the Bishops is unusual, defined by a horizontal and a diagonal cut, their height is 42 mm.

The shape of the Knights is derived from the Bishops. With two additional side cuts and one small frontal cut, the designer tried to recreate the head of a horse. The height is 40 mm.

The Pawns are approximately one half of the basic ellipsoid, their height is 31 mm.

Unfortunately, we do not know the designer and the manufacturer of the set, as it was sold without the original packaging. We do not know whether a board was originally manufactured with these pieces. The only reference we have ever found is on this webpage of the Chess Museum, under the heading Eggs:
