Geller and Nezhmetdinov Apply The "Deadly Pin"!
Looking at Geller's games recently, I found a very interesting game from the 1971 Capablanca Memorial in which Geller (White) sacrifices a whole rook against Velimirovic to obtain what I call the "Deadly Pin", meaning a pin Black cannot get out of without incurring great material losses and/or loss of the game.
And this Geller-Velimirovic game reminded me of one of Rashid Nezhmetdinov's most famous games, played in a 1962 Team Competition in the USSR. It is said tat Rashid's brilliance was so astounding, nobody else bothered to submit their games for the Beauty Prize- it was guaranteed in advance to Nezhmetdinov!
