Dear readers, sometimes a pattern is so unique and picturesque, it becomes embedded in my mind.
I first came upon this idea when it was presented in the game Ribli-Adorjan, 1983, in Adorjan's book, "Black is Back!" (NEW IN CHESS, 2016)

I found this move quite amazing and artistic, and thought I would never see it again.
But recently, reading the book "Masterpieces and Dramas of the Soviet Championships, Vol. II (1938-1947)
I came upon the game Makogonov-Tolush, USSR Championship, 1944, in which the same "uncovering" theme, with the same bishop move, .....Bf1!, was used to great effect. By the way, Simaginfan has a nice blog post about Makogonov:
Take a look:
Voronkov mentions that this tactic could have happened in the game Popiel-Marco, (Monte Carlo 1902)....
I hope you have enjoyed this. Nowadays I do not have the time/energy to do more.
Peace.
