Think Twice Before Entering Chess.com’s Social Side!
Please read this before you make your decision into entering the social side!
You are a chess.com member which just noticed there is a social side in this website, does it mean I should enter it? No, This is NOT a joke!
If you are forcing yourself to enter the social side here what will probably happen to you!
1. Your account may get shutdown for abuse: Well let's be honest, I am seeing so many chess.com members getting closed for abuse and they are a part of the social side, You may wonder why.. It is because of the trolls for example you may fight with a person which may be a troll and once chess.com investigates into this they may accidental close your account and the big problem is so many people doesn't how to recover it! So what will you choose? Entering the social side and getting your account closed for abuse for reasons? or just stay away from it..? Remember, it's your choice. not mine!
2. You will get addicted: One of the most obvious things to happen is that you get addicted, imagine spending your whole day on chess.com just because of entering the social side! Everyone is addicted to social now days.. and before you enter the social side do you remember all of the fun that you had when you didn't enter social? this all be gone of the addiction! it's actually hard to kill the addiction though, Well actually this isn't chess.com's fault it's actually YOUR fault for entering social sadly.
3. You will be targeted by trolls: If you were on the social side for almost 3 months max you probably experienced the trolls Like Viroh, Xumi, Cars3.. Viroh is one of the biggest known trolls on this site and he's also known for his hilarious actions per like everyday he creates accounts by using disposable emails and attack chess.com community club until the staffs come online they may mute or ban him, And viroh loves to target people who are the most loved chess.com member's and they are innocent they ain't doing nothing really! I am seeing other social media site's that are the safest social environment and meanwhile chess.com isn't! Even in discord if a troll comes to a server there is a AutoMod that bans him so easily! So will you enter the social side? Or your already don't want to? Remember, it's your choice. not mine!
4.You will be stuck on your current rating: If you really became a chess.com social side addict then your probably ignoring playing chess as always, You will have a problem in improvement on elo and puzzles and much more! One of the notable examples is @carlsen which is currently stuck on 1500 Elo because of the social addiction he is almost leaving all clubs he is in So you will enter the social side anyway? or not..? Remember, It's your choice, and NOT mine!
These are the 4 important things that always happens, Let's dive into some advanced things that may happen with you
1. Psychological Drain: Constantly interacting in clubs, forums, and DMs pulls you into a loop of overthinking and emotional highs/lows.
You start worrying about:
Who’s online?
Did they like my post?
Am I being ignored?
Should I respond to that club drama?
Over time, this creates mental fatigue, social anxiety, and even sleep problems — all from a chess site.
2. Reputation Damage: Say one wrong thing, even if it’s a joke — and it spreads. People screenshot, take things out of context, or report you.
A single fight or mistake can permanently damage how others see you in the community, even if you were once respected.
3. Loss of Skill Progress:
Many active social users stop improving at chess. Why?
They spend their time debating in forums, replying to club posts, and chatting instead of:
Reviewing games
Watching lessons
Solving puzzles
The social side feels like you’re part of the chess world… but you’re not growing at all.
4. Mod Bias & Power Abuse: Not all mods are fair. Some are friends with trolls or protect certain clubs. If you report someone, they might ignore your case or defend the wrong side.
In some cases, the power system on Chess.com feels broken — where popularity matters more than truth.
5. Fake "Elite" Circles: Certain clubs or users act like they’re elite or famous, but in reality, they gatekeep and control others.
If you’re not part of their circle, they may block you, ignore you, or blacklist you from events.
It’s like a toxic social high school, hidden behind chess boards.
15. Burnout and Escape Regret:
After weeks or months in the social scene, users often feel overwhelmed and try to quit...
But by then:
They’ve lost their peace
Their messages are flooded
People expect them to stay active
They feel trapped in a social role they never asked for.
So..? Are you still forcing yourself to enter the dark social side where you never see peace in it? However it is NOT recommended to! My goal for this blog is for people to prevent entering the social side! Hope you all thought that it's useful, and thank me for later! ;D
And we came to the end! That is all of today's blog! Thanks for reading!
