Two More Photos of Snowy Almaty

I never tire of looking out of our south windows or standing on our balcony to take in our limited panoramic view of the mountains to the south.  Never!  You can see God’s creation of mountains as faultless while man tries to replicate it in glassy, show buildings.  The one thing going for this nearly completed structure is that it shows off the fire works displays that go off regularly in the main square downhill from it.  Construction projects are going at a snail’s pace around Almaty but seems there are skeletal crews working on them throughout the winter.

In any case, I’m encouraged by what God’s Word has to say about hills and small mountains.  I took courage from this passage when I lived in the Philippines in 1981-83.  It gives me encouragement now as I face a brand new semester of teaching my Kazakh students.

I will lift up my eyes to the hills–
From whence comes my help?
My help comes from the LORD
Who made heaven and earth.

He will not allow your foot to be moved;
He who keeps you will not slumber.
Behold, He who keeps Israel
Shall neither slumber nor sleep.

The LORD is your keeper;
The LORD is your shade at your right hand.
The sun shall not strike you by day,
Nor the moon by night.

The LORD shall preserve you from all evil;
He shall preserve your soul.
The LORD shall preserve your going out and your coming in
From this time forth, and even forevermore.
Ps. 121
