Crazy Chess Miniatures

Chess miniatures, or games that end in 25 moves or less, can be some of the most exciting or boring games. Some involve spectacular tactical combinations or brilliant preparation while others are practically planned draws. 

Today I will share a few of the best miniatures as well as a very recent one involving two of the world's top players. 

The following game shows just how important it is to focus on development in the opening and not help your opponent get their pieces active. Otherwise, a monstrous initiative could take over.

The following game may well be the most famous miniature as it is extremely short and played between the world's best at the time.

The next game is another short miniature that, once again, shows the power of the initiative.

This next game is of the great Mikhail Tal, famed for his genius attacking ideas and sacrifices. Here he is shown slaying the Sicilian Dragon in elegant fashion.

This final game was played yesterday between Viswanathan Anand and Ian Nepomniachtchi. The game resulted in a quick win for Anand in the Grunfeld after making use of years old preparation! 

Chess miniatures are excellent examples of what can go wrong in the opening and what can happen with a powerful initiative.
