Understanding Muzio Gambit

I played this game in slow time today (30' + 5'') and was quite puzzled with the turn it took. I found the whole position quite disruptive but was happy with my move on the 17th.

I read a bit more afterwards but not really sure why some recommended moves are better. Anyone has thoughts to share ? I am taking all advices
