Checkmating with Queen.
Checkmating with Rook.
5. Blackburne's Mate ★★★★★
Main Idea: Checkmating with 2 bishops and Knight. The checkmate that Bishop goes to the place where Knight protects.
.
In this position. knight on g5, is protecting his square and f7 square and another bishop is protecting g7 and h8. So light-squared bishop could go h7, then it's Mate. Blackburne's Mate is checkmating like this.
Let's look an another position.
In this position, white is losing in material. But white has advantage. It's
Qxh5, BRILLIANT QUEEN SACRIFICE!! Then pawn takes, the bishop goes to h7 square. It's CHECKMATE.
.
6. Smothered Mate ★★★☆☆
Checkmating with ONE KNIGHT
Usually, it's impossible. But not at all. Here's an exception. Black's king is in the corner, which it is covered with Black's pieces. So Knight jumps to f7 it become checkmate. Even though the strongest piece In chess, queen can't jump over pieces so it's only available mate with Knight.
Smothered Mate usually sacrifice the queen.
Look an example below.
You forced the Rook on the g8.
How about this???
This position don't have bishop!
But there's way to checkmate
When double checking, king goes to f8, Qf7# is here.
.
7. Back Rank Mate ★★☆☆☆
Checkmating with Rook
. On 8th rank, or 1st Rank Mate. Black's King can't go to the 7th rank because of their pawn. (i believe you know this mate, so I'll not explain anymore.)
It's Not done. IT WILL BE DONE IN 13rd, April
