Now that you know how wage a Frontal Defense, we're going to learn how to quickly evaluate whether a position can be drawn via this method.

A. The defending rook needs at least 3 squares of checking distance to hold the draw.

B. If the rook is below the 7th rank, pretend it's on the 7th when you evaluate the position.

C. For each file beyond one the defending king is cut-off, the defending rook needs one more square of checking distance to draw. This is true for central and bishop pawns.

I hope you enjoyed today's positions. You now have the know-how to determine whether a frontal defense will be successful, and also how to win when it's not.

I love endings and helping others learn to play. I placed 5th in my section at the World Open, won a recent U1600 with a perfect score, and aim to one day be a chess master. :)
