The Grunfeld defense
The Grünfeld is probably one of the most favorite openings for most players against white in the queen's pawn opening mainlines. It certainly is mine... It is extremely flexible, easy to play and my favorite part of course, it is EXTREMELY VIOLENT, especially if white is not careful.
What I find particularly interesting and fun about the opening itself are the tactical shootouts that arise from the games. Perhaps the even more lobbying part are the thematic intertwined ideas form the King's Indian defense to the Benko gambit.
What do all these openings have in common
1. Queen side counter play
2. The fianchettoed bishop on g7
3. The classical f5 pawn push in certain Benko Endgames as well as Grünfeld lines and of course, the violent kingside attack in the Indian.
Here is a game Played recently in the Grünfeld defense.
