All the Queen's Horses ~ THe House of Windsor

In February 1952, during the reign of her father, King George VI, she was on a commonwealth visit to Kenya and staying (high above the ground) in a wooden lodge at Treetops; whilst she was there, her father died. It has long been said of this visit that a Princess went up a tree and a Queen came down!

I speak of course, of Her Royal Highness, Queen Elizabeth II

Now sixty years on, in 2012, we celebrate not only the Olympics here in Britain, but also our Queen’s diamond jubilee ~ the celebration has begun already and will continue for weeks to come, culminating in a Diamond Jubilee Concert at Buckingham Palace on June 4 with Sir Paul McCartney, Sir Elton John, Annie Lennox and others. The following day, June 5, seeing the thanksgiving service at St Paul’s Cathedral, followed by formal procession finishing, as is usual with the Queen’s appearance on the balcony of Buckingham Palace to observe a 60-gun salute and a flypast by aircraft of her Royal Air Force.

But as I said, the celebration has already begun, and these past four days have seen gatherings at Windsor Castle from Thursday through to Sunday night where representatives from all over the world have come, en masse, to pay their respects and participate in this 4-day Jubilee Pageant which also includes the participation of more than 500 horses from many of these countries.

Here is a very brief peek beginning with the arrival of the Queen last night (Sunday 10 May), escorted by a mounted detachment of the Lifeguards, the most senior regiment of the British Army, and who, with the regiment of the Blues and Royals, make up the Household Cavalry under whose guard, swords drawn, she is entirely safe.
