Asian Schools Chess Championship 2023

🏆🌟 The Asian Schools Chess Championship 2023 concluded with two young players from Sri Lanka shining brightly, clinching gold medals in their respective categories! 🥇✨

Held in Uzbekistan from July 15th to 19th, 2023, the championship featured players from various age groups, competing in the Under 07, 09, 11, 13, 15, and 17 categories for both Open and Girls divisions. Organized by the Uzbekistan Chess Federation on behalf of the Asian Chess Federation and FIDE, the event attracted talented young chess enthusiasts from across the continent. ♟️🏅

In the Under 13 Girls' category, S M I Umandi Mudalige of Ferguson High School, Ratnapura, displayed exceptional skill and strategic brilliance, securing the championship with a stellar score of 6.5/9 points. Leading the event in most rounds, including the final round, Umandi's consistent performance earned her the top spot. The competition was fierce, with three players tying for the championship with the same score. However, with a superior tiebreak, Umandi rightfully claimed the gold medal. Mahri Agamyradova of Turkmenistan and Sevinch Davlatova of Uzbekistan showcased impressive performances, settling for the first and second runners-up positions, respectively. 🌍💪

In the Under 07 Girls category, Hoshithmi Pehansa Samaraweera of Sujatha Vidyalaya showcased remarkable talent, leading her category in most rounds, including the final round. With a brilliant performance, she secured the championship with an impressive score of 7.5/9 points, one point ahead of the silver medalist. Azaliya Balakanova of Kazakhstan displayed outstanding skills, claiming the first runner-up position with 6.5/9 points. The battle for the second runner-up position was intense, with two players tying at 6/9 points. In the end, Maryam Taubassar of Kazakhstan secured the bronze medal with a higher tiebreak. 🎉🏆
