Endgames
So I have spent the last few days playing chess (in person) against a friend of mine during lunch hour. He is a fairly even match for me, though I beat him most of the time. Today's game was interesting as we went the whole game with nothing more than trades, so near the end he had a bishop and I had a knight and was up a pawn.
It set the tone for some great endgame play and as I've been diligently studying endgame strategies (king against king and the increased value of pawns for example). I was able to trap him and get a queen in the process, setting the stage for a Queen and King checkmate.
Best game I've played in a long time.
