Chess is.... Many famous masters of this game proposed different answers to this question. I incline more towards the statement that chess is a form of art. And the purest form of art in chess are : Chess compositions. Chess compositions have one rule: Each piece has to be absolutely essential for the position.Their beauty relies on fancy turnovers, unexpected breakthroughs and stunningly beautiful chains of moves. The next example shows precisely that kind of sequence. This diagram was composed in 1922 by L.Kubbel
Sacrificing a piece in chess is a ability to break through the logical barriers of our materialistic thinking. It's an ability to think outside the box of traditional approach in chess.Chess compositions and puzzles serve us as tools to spot moments where breaking the rules of minimalistic thinking leads to an utter success. The next chess composition was composed in 1977 by V.Baja
Besides the training purposes these compositions serve us, chess players as a example of the beauty on the 64 squares.I fell in love with those and from time to time when I want to tickle my grey matter I solve few of those.Applying them in your training plan might be a perfect refreshment of a stereotype.Chess is not just a cruel, unforgiving sport but occasionally it's a form of art.
