Optional Board Coordinates

As a player who has trouble comprehending “chess language” in rapid fire precision, when streamers are talking about their games when not drawing on the board, I give up trying to understand what they are saying and check out mentally (or just move on to a different stream or even abort a premium video lesson).

I was thinking that chess platforms/manufacturers can have an additional board coordinates option where every square on the board will have coordinates on the lower left or right of it from the point of view of the player.

(The notation can be transparent like how inside coordinates are set up so it looks nice)

I am suggesting this as a new way to improve visualization of the board in addition to the training/coordinate exercises, hopefully someone won’t need to play games with the training board anymore. Though there are players (like me) who still have a hard time being able to tell the coordinates without looking at the edges of the board. It would also be easier for people who don’t know chess to understand things without them having to pause for a few seconds to find out what they are talking about (on chess broadcasts for example). It’s just a simple quality improvement in my opinion.

People who don’t need this don’t have to use it & it’s probably not going to be on tournament boards, but it can be on chess club boards to help people learn.

You don’t just tell someone to get better at riding a bike, you give them training wheels, if they don’t need them anymore, great, if they still need them, who cares since it’s ultimately just a game.
