Analyzing some interesting Rook Endgames Puzzles (+ Video)

Hi chess enthusiasts. I know some young players who have problems solving and understanding Rook Endgames, and I’ve seen it’s a very common obstacle for many chess lovers. That’s why I thought it was a good idea to prepare a post and video about this thematic. There are 5 puzzles; all of them are intentionally rated between 2000 and 2400. In that rating range they are instructive, and at the same time not too difficult (so I can solve them more or less quickly ).

Some interesting notes

I would like to highlight some interesting ideas:

  • In Rook and Pawns Endgames, in general, we will say that the best position for the rook is behind the passed pawn (it works for the enemy pawn and also for your own passed pawn, behind should be the best). If not possible, then on the side is fine. And the worst position to protect your own pawn (or attack and stop an enemy pawn) is in front of it (Pos. 1)
  • Whenever you have the possibility to simplify and transpose to a pawns endgame, it’s something you should analyze. Sometimes the resulting endgame is not so complicated to assess, and maybe you can get something suitable with that variation (Pos. 2 and 5).

Good luck to everybody, and take care!!!

Stay home as much as possible.

HAVE A GREAT WEEK!!!
