How to play Wing Gambit (+ Video)

Hey guys! Today we learn a new opening: Wing Gambit. This is an aggressive variation against Sicilian Defense. It could be really useful since it can also be played against French Defense. There are some good possibilities to create positions where the famous and strong Greek Gift Sacrifice could work.

We need to say that this line is not played very often among the best players of the world, since when Black knows the theory and plays accurately they can defend and get more or less good positions. However, among beginners and club players this could be a really dangerous weapon for White.

Highlights about Wing Gambit

  • The mainline for Black is to accept the pawn on b4. In general, after other options, White could still keep a small advantage in the middlegame.
  • The positions in the mainline are dynamic and White could get good compensation for the pawn down, sometimes occupying dark squares, and in other positions attacking the Kingside.

In this post/video there are plans, general ideas, and some theory. But keep in mind that practice, experience, hard work, and learning from your mistakes is what is really going to help you to completely understand and include a new Opening in your repertoire. Hope this helps!

Good luck to everybody, and take care!!!

Stay home as much as possible.
