London System: An interesting plan and a game I won (+ Video)
Hi Caissa’s friends. This time we are talking about the super popular London System. I’ve been playing it recently and I have to say this is actually a nice opening for White. At the end of this post I will be commenting some characteristics and what I like and dislike about London (the opening, not the city
).
But first, I want to take a look at a game I won a couple of years ago. It was against a good friend and strong FM in an Official Tournament. In the video I analyze the plan I used as White and explain some interesting tactics, as well as some basics about London System.

Defects and Virtues of London System
Defects:
- Black has some way to get a more or less balanced game; probably the scheme with d5, c5 and Qb6 is good enough for them.
Virtues:
- In general you can use some different approaches when you play it (more aggressive or more solid) depending on your style.
- It’s more or less easy to learn and play.
- You can avoid a lot of theory compared, for example, to Queen’s Gambit.
- Especially as a surprise, it can be a very strong weapon in tournaments (that’s how I’m planning to use it, but don’t say anything
)
Good luck to everybody, and take care!!!
Stay home as much as possible.
