Removing the Defender (+ Video)
Hello everyone. As you already know, tactics is a very important aspect of the game if you want to raise your level. In this post, I’m going to explain 7 selected puzzles, where you have to win using a Tactical Theme we call Elimination of the Defender.
We talk about Elimination of the Defender (or Removing the Defender), when we have a winning tactical sequence, but to make it work, we need to eliminate some defender, which is protecting some important square. To get that, usually, we’ll need to sacrifice some valuable piece so we can do the winning sequence.
Let’s see some examples. I encourage you to try to find the solutions for some minutes.
In this video you can find variations and explanations for 7 selected diagrams.

Also, it’s important you to know, that if you feel you need to improve some particular tactical idea or theme you can do it on Chess.com Tactics Trainer (now with a new fresh aspect), in the Learning Mode, in options, you can select the Theme you would like to practice (like Removing the Defender).
