Two Underpromotion Puzzles you should try to solve (+ Video)

FM michechess89

Hi chess mates. Today we are going to talk about Underpromotion. I found two amazing studies to explain this Tactical Theme. I am sure you will enjoy and learn with this puzzles. We are going to start with a little bit of theory:

We have Underpromotion, when the best move in some position is to promote to something different than a queen, like a bishop, a rook or a knight. The queen is the most valuable piece you can promote to, so promoting to any other thing is always surprising and it looks very good as tactical theme.

Let’s see these two examples. I encourage you to try to find the solutions for some minutes.

In this video you can find variations and explanations for 2 Amazing Studies.

Also, it’s important you to know, that if you feel you need to improve some particular tactical idea or theme you can do it on Tactics Trainer (now with a new fresh aspect) in the Learning Mode, you can select the Theme you would like to practice (like Underpromotion). Also you will find there in the right side your Performance when solving different tactical themes, so you can identify your weaknesses and work with them.

If you liked this you can follow me clicking on the right side at the top of the post (or top of the comments in cells). I will be posting things like this often.

And if you think this is going to be helpful for your friends, share it with them.
