2023 Murfreesboro Chess Club Championship

It's hard to imagine a more apt metaphor than a tornado watch emerging in the middle of Murfreesboro's Championship on December 9th, 2023, which then lasted for the duration.  For the most part the elders had to clutch onto their ratings the best they could as the young players stormed the boards!  

The event brought out 23 eager members for 5 rounds, plus Rocklyn Campbell, who graciously played as an extra player in rounds 2 - 5.  Ryan Davidson took clear first, and seized the 2023 Champion's title.  Saeed Hoja, Hannah Osborne and Rich Larmi won the U1600, U1400, and U1200 prizes respectively.  Rich won in a decisive blitz tie-break against Grant Stoehr on Thursday evening, December 15th, 2023.  Hannah Osborne also won a special medallion commemorating the Greatest Upset Win in the tournament.  Aside from those prizes, four chess books and two $25 gift cards were raffled off.
