Chess For Beginners: English Opening introduction (part 1)

Until I go on summer break I probably wont start middle-game help so lets pass that time with the English, so all along this trip to learn the game of chess we talked about things like the Reti, Sicilian and Scandinavian but most of those are e4 and Nf3 openings today lets look at 'the d-pawns best friend' aka the c-pawn 

Opening to the English:

Okay so the English is c4 (no not the explosive...) 

The English:
Okay so the English is that but what can it do. Well it holds the d5 square, while not much at first glance if 1. c4, d5 then we have a Scandinavian type situation. But what if they don't actually play d5 well then the position looks good for white depending on what they play
White can Fiancetto's the Bishop but black still has some control in the center.
