The opening moves 1. d4 or the queens pawn. And 1. e4 or the kings pawn are the most common games even GM's use this in almost every games because the chess principles apply to it.

The chess principles

1. Moves pawns to the center squares to lock the game and get a strong lead

2. if you can move 2 pawns in the center do it.

3. After 2 pawns in the center Knights then bishops

T
The Reti opening skips d4 and e4
So why do you not normally not play the Reti?
Well the best defense to Nf3 is d5 grabbing central space
Leading you to most likely transpose to the Queens pawn opening:  Zukertort Variation
 Heres what it looks like
So what do you do instead?
play c4 attacking the pawn this is called the Reti opening: Reti Gambit

                                                                 Main Ideas:

So in this section I am going to show you a game I played with the Reti.

I am white in this and we stayed in the Reti

So why did I bring the reti up. Well It already develops a piece and to not get behind in development back might do Nf6 or Nc6. But another game to bring up is with its other transposition the KIA or Kings Indian Attack for all of you who are bored by that long game this one is really not as long

 Conclusion:

So the Reti is a hypermodern opening that can transpose into a lot of openings, it's a tricky opening that can be hard to master. In all this is a quick way to develop but it's not the best way to start the game.
