Advantages and disadvantages of online chess and physical chess
Hi, my name is Nehan, and I am 11 years old. Today I will be giving a speech on the advantages and disadvantages of online chess and physical chess. Now for a kick start, before I get to the point let me answer a crucial question “What is chess”? Chess is a board game of strategic skill for two players, played on a chequered board on which each playing piece is moved according to precise rules. The objective is to put the opponent in a place where his king can no longer be moved and the term for this is “Checkmate”. Now let’s begin. I will start by informing all of you about the advantages of online chess.
The advantage of online chess is that when you don’t have anybody to play with, online chess might be your best option. Take me as an example for an instance at home the only person that plays chess with me is my dad but sometimes, he’s busy or tired. When one of these things happen the reply I get when I ask my dad to play chess with me is “Aiya I just came back from work, I’ll play with you later.” or “You can play chess online what? Why don’t you go play online?” So that is one of the advantages. Now imagine, you’ve always wanted to play with your favourite player, but you can’t, because that person might be in another country. But if you play chess online you can play with whoever you want and that is the second advantage. Now on to the last advantage of online chess. As all of you know due to this pandemic invasion, we cannot have physical chess competitions because almost all competitions are taking place online and attending the competitions makes it even easier as you don’t have to be physically present to attend the competition. There, now that we are done with the advantages, time to jump to the disadvantages of online chess.
There are several disadvantages in online chess, but I will only state a few. Number one, as we might be spending a lot of time in front of our computer screen, this will directly be detrimental to our eyes in the long run. Number two, many online players use chess engines to help them make the right moves, that is why although their rating is low, they will win against you. Now, time for the advantages and disadvantages of physical chess.
I will start with the advantages of physical chess. Number one, unlike online chess, players cannot use chess engines, so it’s a fair game. Number two physical chess is more interesting because you can share ideas with your opponent and add some humour as it adds some flavour to the game. Now it’s time for the disadvantages of physical chess. Many physical chess tournaments take place in other countries so you will have to travel to that country to attend the competition. Now time for the last disadvantage, if you play chess physically your opponents can know if you have made a blunder or made a losing move just by looking at your facial expressions. If you ask me on what would be my choice between online chess and physical chess I would go for physical chess, because as I said earlier physical chess has more flavour and is more interesting. But for the time being I have no other option but to play chess online because of this pandemic. THANK YOU.
