Hello all

In this post how to select openings, so that you can score points without spending years studying the books and moves !

well you may say does this "chesscorner64" Candidate Master have good results before reading further ? happy

well I had to create new account "newchesscorner64" on June 28, as I chose to close "chesscorner64" on that day after consulting chesscom support.

so I had to start with 1751 rating on June 28.

2 days later, lets check

it looks like I achieved to cross 2500 ! and the next day I beat an IM !

lets see the graph

but I am a busy person and I dont have the time to study all openings and to study properly chess. maybe you are in the same boat

so I need to find moves early in the opening to avoid the MAIN lines and get positions I am comfortable with. Especially in Blitz where time is limited.

I am not the only one doing that. Lets see what GM Jospem plays in the Sicilian 1e4 c5 with White

In this opening position, the THEORY, i.e the MAIN MOVE known is 3.d4

But Jospem decides to go for sideline 3c3 most of the times, even though he can also play main line.

What is the position he often reaches ?

he has played 68 times the  position after 10..Nb4, so he is in familiar territory.

I will showcase one game where he won easily

you may say, are you following Jospem's ideas ? in this case I don't

I found a different way to escape the main THEORY and go for a line I feel "comfortable"

I play 3 Nc3!?. Most players respond 3..Nf6 hoping I will play d2-d4 and we go back to the MAIN LINES.

but I have a surprise in stock, I play 4e5 !?

my opponent takes the pawn on e5 which I recapture with my knight on e5. bringing a knight forward creates problems for Black to solve

I am familiar with this position I have played many times.

Here's one example

and I played a different opponent using the same sideline with success

dear reader, on move 3, what would you go for ? 3 d4 the main line, Jospem's 3 c3 or "newchesscorner64" 3 Nc3 ?
