I'm always amazed when reading and I come across the name of a chess player who gave up the game. Such was the case this past week when I encountered the name of former GM Ken Rogoff in not one, but two, different articles. He is currently the Thomas D. Cabot Professor of Public Policy and Professor of Economics at Harvard University. The first is an article from the NY Times: Dr. Doom ( www.nytimes.com/2008/08/17/magazine/17pessimist-t.html) in which he is quoted.
The other one is from the Times Online: Credit crunch may take out large US bank warns former IMF chief ...
business.timesonline.co.uk/tol/business/industry_sectors/banking_and_finance/article4563171.ece Professor Rogoff is quoted extensively in this one. You can read more about him at: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/kenneth_rogoff

I cannot help but wonder, like with Reuben Fine, what would have happened if Ken had continued with chess. What causes world class Grandmasters like Ken, and Tal Shaked
(http://talshaked.com/), to give up the game?
