Nova Daily - 27 March 2025
Hi!
Today I got a message in my DM that contained an indecent NSFW picture. I rolled with my eyes and did as I should: remove friend, block, report, archive the conversation, and wait for the Staff message to appear. Which it did, while I was playing my daily rapid game. I don't name-shame, and because chesscom staff work hard to keep this place safe for everyone, fortunately there's no need to.
But it does make me wonder. Would those people have such pictures hanging on the wall in their own home? Opposite the balustrades to the bedrooms? And what do they think that they'll achieve with a message like this? Do they actually believe that the recipient will be impressed? Because if they do think that, then it missed its target. The only thing that I'm impressed by is the depths they've sunken to to send such a pathetic picture around. I seriously wonder if they'd also be sending the same picture to their moms, their bosses, their grandparents, their siblings.
If you ever feel like sending such a picture around, first answer these questions:
- Am I romantically involved with the other person?
- Has that person explicitly asked me to send it?
- Would I send this picture to any family member, someone from work, or within my social circle?
If you answered 0-2 questions with yes, then don't send it around.
If you answered all three questions with yes, don't send it around either.
Just don't do it.
All jokes aside, though. Such behaviour is a much more severe issue than it might seem at first. Just because you don't hear about it doesn't mean it doesn't take place.
How each victim of such harassment chooses to deal with it is up to them. I'm not the person to tell others what to do. But it's your business not to make it worse.
The game
I have to run in a second, so I'll just share the game here.
Analysis will follow later.
