Nova Daily - 5 April 2025

Hi!

At first I didn't expect to get a game in today, but I was home in time so I wound up playing one anyway. It's certainly not been my favourite game: I hung a pawn out of the opening by just playing badly. I managed to create complications, which got me some vague attacking chances. Since my opponent was running low on time, I decided to keep the game going rather than settle for a repetition. There was a nasty trick in the position that I figured couldn't hurt to try, and it ended up working. After that I still had to convert an advantage, and I think that it was easier said than done. But then my opponent made another mistake, and the game was over at that point.

I'll add my thoughts tomorrow, but let's just say that I'm glad that my chess-playing performances of this week are over.
