Nova Daily - 7 June 2025: Writing a blog from your phone

Hi!

Given that my PC has been annoying me once more, I've decided to write the remainder of my today's blog from my phone. It's funny (not ironic!) that this precise question was raised earlier in one of my groups.

Writing a blog from your phone

Is it possible to write a blog from your phone?

The answer is a resounding "Yes, but."

As far as I know, you can't read or write blogs through the chesscom app, so you'll have to access chesscom through your web browser in order to do so. On your browser you can use all the features, even on your phone. Inserting game analysis is an excruciating task, as is adjusting things like layout. Sometimes when I'm writing a message and want to edit some of the writing at a later moment, the browser is being annoying as hell, scrolling all the way up as if I wanted to navigate there. Editing text in longer posts is even worse, because placing the cursor is also subject to some caprice of where it lands in the end (even something like spreading out the text is annoying). Selecting longer patches of text is also a nightmare.

You can write a blog on chesscom from your phone. But unless you're explicitly testing and training your patience with machines that refuse to cooperate, I'd warmly recommend against it.

Analysing yesterday's game

As was clear, I had forgotten my lines in the opening. I got a worse position, and my opponent played very well to expand their advantage and bring the point home at my expense.

Model games:

I fount some high-rated games with this line that can help with showing what black was supposed to do instead of the mishap 6...b4 that I produced. These two games are blitz games, but they are still high-quality.

Source analysis:

As I deviated from Castellanos as early as I did, there wasn't much to contemplate. The engine eval shows that my opponent played a very solid game. Their advantage never came into question.

Not my best game, that is. I'm seriously considering getting more Daily games in with white starting 1.d4 and me taking the black pieces. I need to get this fixed.

What can I take away from this game?

After 6...b4?, black is in for a rough game. White obtains a large advantage almost without a fight. The right move to play there is 6...Nd5 (or 6...Nfd7) and after 7.Nxb5 to continue with 7...Nb6.

Working daily to fashion myself a complete and durable opening repertoire. New text every day. Weekly recaps on Sunday.
