Ranking every single checkmate worst to best

This is ranking every checkmate, all 12 of them. Special moves are not counted as regular moves, so an en passant is not a pawn checkmate.

And the worst checkmate is.....

12. The Queen Checkmate!

They sure did blunder there, didn't they? This is just such a boring checkmate. Everybody checkmates with a queen. It is just not interesting!

11. The Rook checkmate!

Once again, a very boring checkmate. This is like a queen checkmate. It gets more points only because its harder to pull off. Still very boring.

10. The Promotion to queen checkmate!

The first special move on this list, and also the most boring. Some would argue it belongs higher, but I don't. It is just such a boring move. Gets points because you did promote it, but other than that, not much special.

9. The Bishop checkmate!

Finally, it gets interesting. I gave a bad example. but the bishop Checkmate is one of the more interesting checkmates. While not as interesting, it is still pretty good.

8. The promotion to rook checkmate!

Now you may ask, "But omg_they_killed_kenny! That's just like a Queen checkmate but with a rook? Why would it be higher?" The answer is it's just a Sigma move. You could have gone for the Queen, but you went for the rook. That's cool.

7. Next up is the Knight Checkmate!

I like this checkmate even more than the Bishop checkmate since it involves the king being trapped. Truly a great checkmate.

6. Pawn checkmate!

I would consider this a mate about equal to the Knight Mate. THe only difference is that it was with a pawn, so better. Only after this point, though, do the checkmates become insane. This is the last piece checkmate... right?

5. The King Checkmate!

You didn't forget about the king, did you? This is one of the coolest checkmates you can do, and truly the last of the pieces. Next up are all special moves.

4. Castle Checkmate

Anyway, the castle checkmate is really hard to pull off. You need to be very accurate to do this. It is worth it, though. It is not the best, because it is kinda predictable, but definetely top 5.

3. Promote to Bishop Checkmate!

This is such a good checkmate. You could have also been promoted to a Queen, but you didn't. This takes in the power from the Rook Checkmate. It is also hard to do, and is overall just a great move.

2. The En Passant Checkmate!

This deserves the 2nd place slot. A lot of people consider this the best checkmate. It is just crazy good. En Passant is already a great move, so doing an EN PASSANT CHECKMATE is just epic. 2nd best checkmate, and MILES better than the rest.

So, with the En Passant Checkmate done. what could be better? There is only one answer and it is...

1. THE PROMOTION TO KNIGHT CHECKMATE!

This is the best checkmate. You rarely ever promote to a knight in a chess game and making it a checkmate is just insane. It is the best checkmate in chess. The game is designed against this happening. It usually punishes you for promoting to a knight. The game makes it hard to do a knight checkmate since it can usually only attack one square. So going against all of that and doing this is just absurd. Best checkmate in the game.
