Progress Report: The first 50 Games
I always liked chess. I'd take it up here and there, buy a few books and get crushed by the computer a few times. That would be it. I never saw a good avenue to improve. It seemed like I enjoyed reading articles about how to improve more than actually playing. About a month ago I got the bug again and looked for a place to play online. I came across chess.com and was impressed by the learning materials. I also liked the way the study plans were laid out.
I started doing lots o tactical problems every day and working the study plans getting through the openings section for beginners.
After a few days I got up the nerve and started playing rated games. Losing a lot more than I won I still felt like I was learning quite a bit. Eventually something clicked... I won 6 in a row and 8 out of 10. After 50 games I'm 26-24 and my rating is just touching 1000. I have some games where I got trounced and some others I'm genuinely proud of.
Overall I'm happy with the progress. Still studying a bit every day. Long term goal is to reach 1200 in 6 months. I hope that is reasonable.
