Have you ever wondered if chess could save a life? Well if the answer is no, still stick around to learn how GM Ossip Bernstein saved his own life with just 1 chess game.

This is French-Soviet Grand master Ossip Bernstien.

In 1918 when Ossip was in Odessa when Bolshevik secret police forces came and arrested him along with sentencing him to death by firing squad. However, last second Johannes Metger was a chess enthusiast and challenged to a game where if he won he would be able to leave but if he lost or even got a draw he would be executed.
