How can you actually improve at Chess?
Introduction
Improving Chess is not an easy task for most people, and this is something I myself have experienced. I started playing at the age of 9, and really quickly started to be one of the best players of my age in my state. But for 4 years I didn't move forward, I was on the same level. It's not always true that the more you play, the better you get.
This year I came back to Chess stronger than ever, from a performance of 1000-1100 in my Chess tournaments, I started to begin to have a performance of 1800, and I play very badly online, I'm a guy who likes playing on a board. In this blog I will tell you how I actually improved, step by step.
Tips
Puzzles, we've all seen puzzles. They are great, and helped me to improve a lot! My puzzle peak in Chess.com is 2200+, but I'm 300 elo down because of playing at late times of the night! Puzzles are great in Chess.com, they are very creative puzzles, and very fun. Also, you get a lot of information about the puzzle when you solve it. Doing puzzles is one of the best things you can do, personally, I think it's the best!
Before I didn't know absolutely anything about openings, anything! I've been playing for 5 years the same opening in every game, e4. My father taught me how to play Chess, and also was a very famous Chess journalist and photographer in my country, so I've got lots of resources. And the best is some Chess Openings cards, they are the best thing ever! Normally at night I get my Chess board and remember 5 openings and sometimes when there's a tournament the next day I practice all of the openings I've previously practiced. So remember, one of the best things you can do to get better is to practice your openings.
And the last thing I do is play daily games on a board because tournaments in real life happen on a board. Playing on a board is different than playing online. On the weekends the best thing you can do is go to tournaments and play with real people, and it doesn't matter if you're opponent has a higher rating than you, the best way to learn is by learning with stronger players.
